Professional
tests for processing and for end-use
in horticulture and agriculture
We specialize in biological and chemical characterization of
recycled organic wastes.

PROCESS QUALITY :
Recycled organic matter (ROM) products such
as compost
when properly prepared possess
important nutrient
and microbiological
properties
which are beneficial
in agricultural and horticultural environments.
Understanding
the
presence and magnitude
of these traits based on careful and
experienced analysis
of critical time-points in handling and processing
improves the sustainability and viability of ROM processing.
ENERGY INTENSIVENESS:
Modern compost
facilties face increasing costs as energy prices rise.
Woods End performs energy indexes
for compost technologies.
The Energy Index will indicate ratios of
consumption of fossil-energy
versus carbon value of the output product.
Improving the energy
efficency of the process
leads to reduced costs and higher
quality.
Woods End advisory services including site inspections and
evaluation of all aspects of handling, lead
to improving the energy efficiency of composting.

Stability, Biogas potential,
and Phytotoxicity Analysis - Woods
End operates America's most advanced lab for evaluating
compost and organic waste properties that determine biological
behavior, whether in terms of odor, plant-toxicity, or bioenergy
extraction.
Test for stability include
O2 uptake, CO2-respiration,
CH4-production, VFA-volatization
and specific plant seedling bioassays.
For
additonal information see section on Stability
and Phytotoxicity.
Microbiological
Testing - Woods End has conducted
two-decades of compost microbiology evaluation. Important
traits to evaluate include positive indicators (aerobic
and anaerobic plate counts, bacteria:fungal ratios and
disease supprssiveness) and "negative-indicators" such
as Salmonella,
fecal coliform,
E. coli, E. coli-0157:H7, Enterobacteriacea
and other potentially pathogenic organisms.
