The presence in composts of potentially plant toxic chemicals, Clopyralid herbicide in particular has prompted this study by Woods End Labs.

Significant concentrations of Clopyralid are required in soil to bring about an effect on many crops. However, gardeners often use heavy rates of compost. The data in these trials result from observations of researchers and invited, independant professional organic growers.
